Real name: Louise
Derby name or ideas for Derby name:
‘Apex Quim’ or ‘Steam Roll Her’
How much skating experience do you have? :
I used to skate regularly at a roller disco when I was about 12 years old, and I took a couple of tests in artistic skating. That was over 25 years ago. Since then, I haven’t really skated at all until I went to a festival in the summer. Not a novice, but still so much to learn!
Life outside of Derby / skating? :
I run a small business, teaching Taekwondo in a community club and also in schools, to kids who don’t want to do more traditional sports. I am married with three kids, all under 10, who love skating too. Into rockabilly, pirates, vintage shopping, burlesque, and also current affairs and politics.
What / who has inspired you to join the PRW Freshmeat? :
I went to watch a Wenches bout in June, and was literally overwhelmed by the sport. It’s so exciting to watch, and I love that it’s dominated by women. I already knew Peggy Peril socially, and she said I should try it. To be honest, I thought it looked a bit scary!
It was really when taking my kids to a roller disco at Boomtown this summer that I made the decision to get some skates and give it a go. I’ve been going to Wreckers sessions for about a month now and loving it! Can’t wait to start Fresh Meat!
Are there any particular aspects you’re nervous about? :
Getting hit really hard. I’ve been doing a contact sport for the last twelve years, but this is a bit different.
Tell us a random fact about yourself? :
I’m running as a candidate in the Eastleigh Borough Council elections next year for the Labour Party. Oh, and I can break wood with my bare hands.
Freshmeat 2013 starts on October 15th at Highbury College Sports Hall, Cosham. For more details email portsmouthrollerwenches@hotmail.co.uk
